Classic x Funk: Meet Cassi Johnson
It's Women's History Month and we are chatting with a few funky sweethearts whose styles we love. Each woman is very different from the other; collectively they embody Nakimuli: The Funky Sweetheart.
Cassi is a NJ actress, screen writer, and makeup artist; she is also our resident make up artist here at Nakimuli! (Not to mention one of our dearest friends.) Whether on set or just hanging out, everyone is always saying how cute her style is (and of course her makeup is always on point.) So it only made sense to highlight Cassi. What makes her style so dope? She mixes classic silhouettes with bright colors and interesting prints, making us all envious of how effortlessly she does it.

What was the first item that made you fall in love with Nakimuli?
The Mambo dress and the dookie bracelets. Super dope!
How would you describe your style?
Anything fun, quirky, and unexpected, I love. That includes bright colors, funky earrings from indie designers, flared jeans in favor of skinny jeans, and structured jackets. I love to mix prints too.
Who are your style icons?
Willona Woods on "Good Times" (pre-Penny, lol). Wasn't she fly? The feathered fedoras, the wigs, the colorful dresses, the velvet pantsuits; her style was EVERYTHING!! I need the boutique she worked for to open for real. Can somebody make that happen?
What fashion/beauty trends are you loving at the moment?
I love that leather motorcycle jackets are being made in different colors. I need to find a mustard one.
What fashion rule do you love to break?
Rules are meant to be broken, right?

What is the best advice you ever received?
Live your best life. While it may sound simple, if you think about it, how many of us are merely existing? Whether it's staying at a job we hate, staying in a toxic relationship or friendship hoping it will change, or worrying about things we can't control, is it really worth it? Life is way too short, so I try to make the best of my time here. I want to die empty.
What is your fashion/beauty philosophy?
Wear what makes you happy. My mood is better when I'm wearing something I love.
Who has had a major influence on you and your style?
My mom.
What are 3 things you can't live without?
Family, love, & my laptop, lol.
If you could go back in time, what era would you go to?
The 70s.
What is your guilty pleasure?
Watching Blaxploitation films.
What is one thing most people would be surprised to know about you?
I have an obsession with home decor. I watch HGTV more than anything else, and I can spend hours in HomeGoods, West Elm, Arhaus, and CB2.

What are your favorite places to travel?
Somewhere warm with a beach, a balcony, and a beautiful view. It's time to plan a vacation.

"She Came, She Saw, She Believed, So She Conquered."
What is one of your most proudest moments?
I recently restarted a project I'd been working on, but put on the back burner because of fear.
